On the next screen, as you
scroll down you will you see instructions for current and new users ("new
users" shown below). Click on the version of ICQ that is appropriate
for your operating system and for whether you are a new or current user.
You will now see instructions
for downloading and installing the ICQ program. Be sure to read these
instructions before downloading. When you are ready to download,
click on
Click on Download Now.
Save your ICQ file (ICQ2000a) to your C;\temp directory.
After downloading, be sure that you are still online and from the Windows screen, select then . Browse to C;\temp, select the ICQ file you downloaded and then click on Open. You will now see:
NOTE: If you try to install and receive a CRC error, it means the file did not download correctly. Either try downloading the file again, or select a different download site from the one you previously used and download the file from there.
As you install ICQ, the first screen you will see will be the license agreement.

Then you will see the ICQ registration screen.
- Click on how you are connected to the Internet. Through a LAN (Local Area Network) or by a Modem.
- Next, indicate whether you are a new user or an existing user. If you are a new user, click on
- On the Next Screen,

- Enter Your First Name
- Enter Your Last Name
- Enter a Nick Name. This will be the name that shows up on another ICQ User's Contact List.
- Enter your Email address. Check whether or not you would like your email address published.
- You MUST create a password for ICQ so that it can verify who you are when you log on. This is helpful when there is more than one person using a computer and they too have an ICQ account.
- Enter a password then enter the same password again in the Confirm Password box.
- Click on Next
- The next screen has "Optional Details" You can fill out what parts of this you want other folks to know about you. When you are finished, click on Next.
- The next screen will tell you that your registration has been successful and will provide you with your ICQ number which you can send to other ICQ users.
- This screen also allows you to select Privacy and Security Settings. You can select how you want other users to add you to their Contact List. You can let anyone add you or . . . you can select "My authorization is required".
- If you select "My authorization is required.", you will get a notice when someone wants to add you to their contact list. You can then grant or deny them the right to add you. If you grant them the right, your Nick Name will show up on their Contact List. If you deny them the right to add you, your name will not be added to their contact list and they will not be able to send you on-line messages or chat with you.
- The next screen is ICQ Services.
Check the services you wish to have. Then click on the Green Flower and ICQ will start.
When ICQ starts, you will get a window in which you are asked if you would like ICQ to search for Address Books.
A Welcome Notice will then pop up on your screen. When you have read it, click OK.
On the right side of your screen, you will see the ICQ program window.
The System Notice Icon will be blinking. Click on this icon.
A window with an Incoming System Request will pop up on the screen that explains a few of ICQ's functions. When you have finished reading the message, click on Close.
Click on ICQ Chat and you the next screen
will come up.
